So week 3 of the home organization challenge is in the books. I’ll admit that I didn’t even start cleaning and organizing the dining room until mid-week, as we don’t have much in our dining room. The focal point of our dining room is our custom made dining room table, made by the local Regina shop Mortise and Tenon. This table is probably my favourite piece of furniture in our house. It is a white oak trestle table, weighing in at over 300 lbs! Check out the Mortise and Tenon website if you’re interested in your own custom piece of furniture. It usually takes about 6-12 weeks from time of deposit to delivery, and you won’t find anyone else who is so passionate about woodworking and who takes such pride in their work!
When my husband and I built this house, we knew we wanted a custom solid wood dining room table that would last us many years and would be the central place for big family dinners and board game nights. Many late nights have been spent at this table drinking wine and scotch, and playing Dominion or Settlers of Catan with the family!
For the most part, our dining room table is pretty neat and clean. However, we don’t have a home office area in our house, so the dining room is where I do most of my writing, bullet journalling, and paying bills. And ever since we had the baby, her bouncy chair is on the dining room table as that’s where she sits to watch me cook and that’s where she sits when we are having our meals.
For the sake of this challenge, I cleared the bouncy chair and table centerpieces off the table and gave the table a good wipe down. I also cleaned the window sill and baseboards in the dining room. This was a pretty easy week for me. Next week, however, is the launch pad or entry way. This will be a more difficult week, as this will include our front entry way closet. There is a mountain of shoes and loads of scarves, mitts, toques, jackets, etc that I will have to go through and either keep or donate. And if I’m keeping them, I’ll have to find a way to organize them better. I’ll check in with everyone next week!
